Anyone tried the new football manager game? Downloaded it off Steam last night but didn't get a chance to give it a go yet.
Wondering if there are many changes to previous seasons

I've not played it, but a friend has and he said aside from a few new things like the medical team, it's practically a reskinned version of 2016.

He also said that this game should have been an update for FM16 instead of a new release. He was very disappointed.

{Ed001's Note - I have been saying that every year for about 10 years now. Each year is just an update, never worthy of being a new game.}

I think most FM releases are usually pretty good, they usually change a lot of things, rework stuff and fix issue's that were in the previous release. But if my friend is right in what he says, then it's yet another game developer I can put into the trash pile.

{Ed001's Note - patching issues should be done as an update, not a brand new game! As for reworking stuff, 99% of the reworking is cosmetic stuff, such as menus or match graphics, which is really irrelevant. The game itself gets very little improvement where it matters.}

Got FM16 when it came out last week. Have to say I'm not really loving it thus far (I know its only been a few days!) Everything seems slow and laboured, especially the game play. Things seem a little unrealistic too, having taken over Liverpool at the of the season and have won 1 game out of 9, and havn't won any at home! Just a little frustrated with it, compared to last years which I really enjoyed.

Ed001, I know you had the beta version for a little longer now. How have you been getting on with it?

Macko

{Ed001's Note - it is ok, looks much nicer now but the gameplay is far too easy I think. I got Crewe to 4th in my first season having topped League 1 for most of the season. The set pieces allow you to set up routines now, but it is far too much effort to set up for my liking.

There are major bugs with the game sticking on loading screens if you alt+tab out of it, so you can't play unless you stay on the game constantly.

On the subject of Liverpool, in that one season I did Klopp was sacked after about 10 matches. Realism is no longer a major part of the game it must be said. It used to be that you would play it and see all sorts of things that ended up happening in real life, I can't remember the last time anything happened in the game that was remotely close to what happens in reality.

It is very disappointing.}

Agreed Ed, disappointing. Reading the offcial reviews online they mentioned that the AI managers on the game become smarter and get to know your tactics. Hence why West Brom and Swansea have already spanked me at Anfield!
I think it will just have to be a case of persevering!

{Ed001's Note - hmmmm I made little change to my tactics all season, yet only injuries to my best players cost me the title at the end of the season. I saw little evidence of the AI learning and adapting their tactical approach. Maybe it is because of the level I am at?}

2.) 18 Nov 2015 14:18:34
I think that's what the review was insinuating. The better the standard of the manager, the better they will deal with us!
Then again, it could be just that you are just too good!

{Ed001's Note - I think it is more likely I just need to step up a few levels, it is probably easier lower down. Though I do fear that it is not realistic, spending nothing and just having a bunch of kids playing shouldn't lead to such good results so easily, with little effort involved tactically. Mind, they do say that a lot of it comes down to man management in this game, the trouble is the players have so little personality to interact with and work with.}

3.) 18 Nov 2015 14:39:55
I'm going to try deal with the players on more of an individual basis before games. See if that makes a difference!
Either that or I'll be sacked before Christmas!

{Ed001's Note - I find that makes a major difference, just getting the team talks right. The rest seems to matter little to be honest.}

FM is one of those games that you don't bother buying until say the jan patch. Pity because the beta was great.

Topic for discussion people. Fifa v Pro Evo.
I was always a Pro Evo man traditionally but havn;t got the last couple of installments. But considering getting the '15 version.
Any reviews on it?

Macko

1.) Used to love pro but fifas been miles ahead last few years Altho this years pro is a massive improvement

{Ed001's Note - this year's FIFA is not good at all, though I haven't tried Pro Evo to compare them, I really did not enjoy FIFA 15.}

Agreed Ed!
Every year I come on here and ask you how you are getting on with the new game (normally as Crewe!) and its, more often than not, the same answer!
I have found myself growing less and less addictive to it! I had put it down to my maturing years! But you are right that the game itself is not evolving quick enough. How can they make it better? I'm not so sure. They are obviously working tirelessly to make it the best game on the market. But when I considered going back to play the 2016 version last night (I had built a serious squad with Liverpool over 15 years!) it made me realise that the updates have become a little stale.
I definitely don't have the love for it that I once had.
But at least there is one person that is happy with my growing lack of interest. The wife couldn't be happier!

Macko

{Ed001's Note - good point, it is no longer the addiction it once was and I am sure it is not because of our maturity!}

I remember asking you after it came out first what you made of the game ed. We're 6 months in now, what do you reckon? The best seasons I have had have been with Ajax. They have an unreal youth set-up and I like developing the young lads. I gave up on Liverpool after I got sacked at x-mas! Too much like hard work! Best player I have signed on it was Ajer, a young Norwegian chap. Turns out to be world class

Macko

{Ed001's Note - I haven't been able to play as much as I would like, have not had the time, only completed one season with Crewe and that is it. I did win promotion though, so I quite like it! Still not sure it is enough of an upgrade to deserve buying each year. I love the game but it is not making any real strides forward. If it wasn't for all the work they do scouting the players each year I would feel like I was being ripped off, as the game itself is almost the same as last year's.}

{Ed007's Note - Kristoffer Ajer signed for Celtic during the January window, Macko. I've left your post sitting for Ed001 to answer you.}
