Recently picked up Tomb Raider after getting bored of the more traditional styled games (BF1, CoD, FIFA, Madden, etc. )

And I have to say it may even top my list of the most gripping game ever, probably the most gripping since I was a kiddo!

Anyone else played it?

superkick

1.) 07 Feb 2017 23:51:47
Yeah the first two traditional one lol. Joking aside I haven't played the new one bit it will probably have to wait! Nioh is out

2.) 08 Feb 2017 13:01:07
Already started nioh and having fun so far. Combat on par with souls games and the boss fights are epic. Also I finally completed dark souls 3. Now only wish there's a bloodborne 2 later this year.

{Ed007's Note - What Tomb Raider game did you get Superkick? I was looking at them the other week, the 20 year celebration Rise of the Tombraider edition or the Tomb Raider Definitive edition? I'm on the PS4 btw.}

3.) 08 Feb 2017 15:57:39
Tomb Raider aka Leap of Faith gameplay.

4.) 09 Feb 2017 09:38:08
I picked up rise of the tomb Raider, the best thing about it for me are it's open world style (with some limitations), really relevant side quests, I struggle to get into stories but this had me gripped.

If you enjoy the likes of Indy Jones, the Dan Brown series, etc. Then you'll love this!

You even get to pick up artifacts and examine them which help you later on in the story sometimes or they tell you what happened to the person who had it (IE if there's a damaged crown they'll say something like the guy who owned it was killed with it on, etc.)

{Ed001's Note - what is nioh?}

5.) 09 Feb 2017 10:06:23
It's a new adventure rpg ed by team ninja. It's been ten years or so in the making. It's by the same people as ninja gaiden and has taken huge influence by dark souls. So it's the two hardest games I've played combined. It looks very nice and my cousin says it's really good so it's on the list! It came out Tuesday but it's valentines next week and I will get murdered if I dare buy it so it's on the back burner lol

{Ed001's Note - does not sound like my type of thing at all, to be honest. Never got into Ninja Gaiden or Dark Souls.}

6.) 17 Feb 2017 14:17:45
Anything that takes more than 3 years to make is usually rubbish.

Look at Duke Nukem' Forever, 18 years in the making and it was garbage. So much hypoe, not enough substance.
"Blow it out your ass" indeed.

I'm looking at buying a new console next month. Now none of my mates really game and I've had both systems before but I can't really tell a major difference, I enjoyed both really.

I'm not really one for exclusives either; I'll tend to play BF, CoD, Elder Scrolls, Witcher, PES and I might give the new Fifa a crack.

Question is, which console so I get?

superkick

{Ed001's Note - it really makes little difference if those are the games you play. Personally I prefer the PS4, but that is just a personal preference.}

1.) 29 Aug 2016 04:20:15
If I was in your position, it would be sold on which controller I preferred.

{Ed001's Note - that's what decided it for me. I hate the Xbox controller, not just is it ugly and looks like a baby toy, it does not fit my hand comfortably. Possibly because I don't have little baby hands, as it has clearly been designed to appeal to children.}

2.) 29 Aug 2016 19:38:25
I went for the ps4 because I just want to turn it on and play games.and I'm pretty sure the ps4 controller is wider than the PS3 one so it feels even better than before

3.) 30 Aug 2016 09:58:20
That doesn't even make sense hoody

4.) 30 Aug 2016 13:02:39
It does if you understand the inner workings of the Xbox ONE and Microsoft Illbill360

5.) 30 Aug 2016 13:09:26
Why you can just put in a game and play on both ps4 and one,well after initial install

6.) 30 Aug 2016 17:31:29
Think I'm going to get the PS4, it was the one I had the most fun with and its slightly cheaper also!

{Ed007's Note - A wise decision if you ask me.}

7.) 30 Aug 2016 18:22:49
I just mean from the Xbox adverts it seemed to be more about the gimmicks they could fit into it.remember the advers with the guy from breaking bad where he's playing games and watching tv in the corner of the screen while running his sex chat line and the Xbox makes him a donner kebab.i have nothing against Xbox I had the 360.thats what I mean when I said I just want to put a game in and play it,I don't want all the other stuff I'm to old lol

8.) 30 Aug 2016 18:23:14
Yeah tbh there's not much difference,you will be happy with your choice I'm sure m8,although u should maybe hang back a month or so until the ps4 slim and neo are out,even if your not interested in them it should push the price of a normal ps4 down a little

9.) 30 Aug 2016 19:28:00
Yeah hoody I know what you mean who really cares about watching tv while playing a game stupid gimmick although the snap thing in general was ok ,like snapping music,achievements and stuff,I know a lot of people that have an Xbox one and not one of them has ever had tv snapped

10.) 30 Aug 2016 21:06:17
Like I said Nothing against Xbox but I'm 33 and a lot of the Xbox features went over my head.i would have liked to play forza and that Roman game

11.) 01 Sep 2016 14:34:16
Illbill360, I may be wrong, but when the consoles first came out, the Xbox ONE required the camera to be on at all times.

goo.gl/UmXN2O

That's an article from 2013, I'm not sure if it has changed now.

12.) 01 Sep 2016 16:18:15
Yeah every console came with the Kinect but you didn't need it on,although a lot of the shortcuts on dashboard was voice commands which used Kinect,now you can use voice commands with your headset but tbh I always preferred using the controller to browse anyway,1st thing I done was get rid of Kinect used it once or twice for streaming and that was it,I know a lot of people were paranoid about it spying on them though just like they are with cameras on laptops,phones etc,although to a certain degree it wouldn't surprise me if they were watching lol

13.) 02 Sep 2016 10:10:47
People have reason to be paranoid.

http://goo.gl/D6XaNI

14.) 02 Sep 2016 11:28:32
I wonder if this kinda stuff will pop up again with the release of psvr and oculus rift as both need cameras on to head track the unit

15.) 02 Sep 2016 11:13:32
I seem to have posted the wrong link in my above post, I'll find the one I meant to post a bit later when I have some more time.

I recent purchased a game called witcher.

Now usually with the way the cover of the game looks and the name I would have stayed away but the guys in game really recommended it to me so I picked it up for £30.

I must say it tops Skyrim for me as my favourite sandbox world game, very similar premis to Skyrim in terms of the age, and so on but what really stood out for me was the combat system, it's amazing, the way your characters live their lives regardless of you - they genuinely all live out their lives.

Anyway, point of the post is that it's a game is never heard of and now it's one of my all time favourite games.

Has anyone else played it?

superkick

{Ed007's Note - I've not heard of it but as a sidenote I was really impressed with the selection and prices of PS4 preowned games in GAME last night. I'll not rhyme them off or it'll look like an advert for them but one that caught my eye was The Order:1886, has anyone played that?}

1.) 20 Nov 2015 05:08:08
Which version of Witcher is it? I have Witcher 2 on the PC and it is not a sandbox game at all. It is not even open world and I thought the only change on the 3rd version was to make it open world.

2.) 20 Nov 2015 05:40:43
ed001, witcher 2 was more of a linear game, like previous AC. I think more games are going to be more of a sandbox game in the future, as it seems to be very successful.

witcher 3 is different. I have both, I haven't played 3, bt I couldn't finish 2 as I don't really like the game. bt I am told witcher 3 is a sandbox. even your character ages over the course of the game (greying hair etc).

good to know that you like it superkick. I love medievel themed games and skyrim was great. i'm still on gta right now, and will play witcher 3 after this.

{Ed001's Note - do you mean open world? Sand box is not the same is it? I always thought sand box games were things like Minecraft, were you build things. Have I got that wrong?}

3.) 20 Nov 2015 07:06:54
Witcher 3 is amazing it's keeping me away from fallout 4.
It's an open world game with great fight mechanics.
Also ed you are correct star wars battlefront is sandbox
Skyrim and witcher are open world

{Ed001's Note - so what is the difference between sandbox and open world? I am so confused now.}

4.) 20 Nov 2015 08:45:12
no you got it right. don't know how I got that mixed up. yes I meant open world.

didnt realize OP said sandbox. actually I did, cause I wrote sandboz but I guess it registered to my brain as another word. and i'm not even old! god help me.

im not sure what I said is relevant anymore.

{Ed001's Note - I am even more confused now! At my age it doesn't take much.}

5.) 20 Nov 2015 08:47:59
i would think, in simple terms ed001,open world would be like skyrim. where you do have a main quest but its up to you to choose what to do in a world built by the developers.

sandbox is where the developers give you tools to create what you want, where the only limitation is the game itself,such as minecraft.

thats what I think it is ed001, didn't really google to back up my statement.

{Ed001's Note - that is exactly what I believed too. Which would defo put Witcher 3 in open world but not sandbox territory. It is only the bugs that are prevalent that kept me from looking to buy a copy of Witcher 3. Though I don't know where to get second hand copies from here, which means I won't be buying any games for a while! PS4 games cost far too much brand new for me to afford to take a chance on nowadays, sadly.}

6.) 20 Nov 2015 10:34:51
i only play fifa on my ps4. I agree its not cheap. which is why I only purchase games when they're on sale on steam. I bought witcher 3 for half the price on halloween.

{Ed001's Note - now I have a PC capable of playing games again, I have to admit I tend to use that for gaming more than a console. Not just because the games are cheaper, but also because there is much more choice and more of the games I prefer.}

7.) 20 Nov 2015 20:28:02
sandbox is casual, objective-free gaming with everything unlocked and zero restrictions. It generally applies to city-buildiers (i.e. sim city, Tropico, Pharoh, Caesar, etc) but can apply to other games. Sandbox is gaming for the sake of gaming; no stress, no pressure, just relaxation

open-world games are games that exist in a setting where you can go everywhere, but you are still limited due to various factors. For example, you can walk anywhere you want in TES: Oblivion, but you are sometime limited due to enemies, quest restrictions, etc. Open-world gaming is based upon objectives and exploration.

Ended up getting a ps4 in the end.

Picked up;
1) NBA 2K16 - heard great things about the career mode, although I don't know much about basketball.

2) madden 16 - amazing as it is every year, probably the only game EA get right.

3) PES16 always been a PES guy and this one is phonominal.

4) WWE 2K16, love wrestling games, so far a little underwhelmed but I'm going to stick it out.

5) Battle for Mordor? (I think) got it for £12 pre owned and apart from it being quite difficult (so many orcs) it's a really fun game! Nothing like Skyrim though! - which is what I expected it to be like.

Love the system, got some decent games to play. Just got to get used to it all again! Haven't games in years!

superkick

{Ed007's Note - Give it 18 days and I'll be joining you on the PS4. I've got the Battlefront bundle pre-ordered, I'll buy AC Syndicate with that and I'll need to buy Rory McIlroy's Golf for the Mrs. There's loads of games we (me and her) want or have wanted, I love the Fallout games and 4 looks cracking, the Unchartered pack just now looks great VFM for me and the Mrs fancies Last of Us and the (swearing) Walking Dead games.
I gave up on football games a good few years ago - whatever PES came out round about the time Saddam Hussein got caught, me and my wee mate watched him get hung between games of PES and taking vodka shots - I've bought a couple of FIFAs as well but after over 30 years of playing video games nothing will ever realistically replicate playing the game, they're all a bit of a let down to me. Google Matchday, Kick-Off II or Sensible Soccer lol
My nephew has told me I need to buy COD to play online but I think that's just so he can bitch me on it.
I'll be looking out for cheap games and pre-owned deals to build up a wee library, I'm a bit long in the tooth to need the latest game as soon as it's out so waiting a couple of months to save £20 on the price is fine by me.}

1.) 01 Nov 2015 10:30:02
Check out battle for Mordor ed especially if you're a LoTR fan. Was considering picking up mad max too but I don't know much about it.

Also PES is quite realistic, doing a master league with United and I couldn't score for toffee until I signed mane and injected some pace into the team.

All good fun though!

{Ed007's Note - I'll maybe have a try before I buy with PES or FIFA but I'll give anything to do with LOTR a wide berth thanks.
I'm like a kid waiting on Christmas day waiting for this PS4 release later this month...

2.) 01 Nov 2015 23:51:36
You're missing out ed! It's like Skyrim crossed with assassins creed!

What's the first game you're looking forward to ed?

{Ed007's Note - It was because of the Star Wars LE Battlefront Pack that I decided I NEEDED to get a PS4, I'm an absolute Star Wars nut but really it's AC or Fallout 4 I'm really looking forward to get into.
Ed001 has been on at me and the Mrs about Skyrim for ages, he says she'd like it so I might check that out if it's a bit like AC too, both of us might like it.}

20 Oct 2015 21:22:59
I'm buying a new console in 2 weeks. Seeing as both are a similar price which one do I get?

I'm only going to okay Madden, WWE16, NBA 2K16 & GTA. I'm not one for exclusive and most of my friends are split evenly between the two consoles.

Which so I get, XB1 or PS4?

superkick

{Ed001's Note - have you tried both controllers? Most people who can't decide seem to go on which controller suits them better. Personally I prefer the PS4, it is slightly more powerful but the difference is minimal, it is just I much prefer the controllers.}

1.) 21 Oct 2015 08:00:31
I've used both and I'm fine with both to be honest. I really am torn, a lot of people are recommending the PS4 over the XB1.

Anyone got any experiences with both?

{Ed001's Note - I assume you intend to subscribe to either Gold or PSN+? If so Plus does offer better free games, especially if you have a PS3 and/or PS Vita.}

2.) 21 Oct 2015 20:12:38
That is the intention ed.

I've always had an Xbox up until I sold it off in 2011, so I'm more familiar with the OS providing it hasn't changed much.

Is psn easy to use? In comparison to the Xbox os?

{Ed001's Note - I think they are both simple on purpose. Console users are gamers, rather than necessarily computer nerds, so they tend to design them for ease of use.}

I absolutely loved it, one of my favourite games on next gen.

I actually prefer it to Skyrim in some places, once you start levelling up its great fun.

All I would say is finding missions as you go along can be a bit of a pain but d you like exploring I'm sure you'll be fine.

Also be prepared to run, unless you want to spend physical cash on the in game markets you won't have a horse anytime soon lol.

I didn't like it at all.

It feels more like a UFC/Fight Night game than a WWE game.

I didn't like the submission system in game or the way career is done, they really need to add a story element to the career mode instead of the same questions in the same interviews and fighting the same matches forever.

I like the multi-choice but that needs to go somewhere in an actual story instead

I never played 1 or 2, only witcher 3. There are references to the other 2 but nothing that you'll even bat an eye lid at. It's a great game and for £30 an absolute bargain if you get it pre-owned.

Before you start the game it goes over the outline of what the witcher is, but this campaign (minus a couple of characters) has no relevance to the first 2 games.
