So it probably isn't everyone's cup of tea, but its a free game on steam and pretty fun if you have a few friends. Its really fun if you can gather a squad of 6.

Game name: Deceit
Cost: Free (steam)

Its not very popular yet so you may find server populations low.

The premise of the game:

Survive to the end. There are 6 people per game.

4 people are randomly chosen as innocents. 2 people are randomly chosen as infected. The infected look exactly the same as the innocent. The infected know who the other infected is, but the innocent think all 6 are innocent.

The innocent have to find a way to work together to expose the infected. The infected have to find a way to blend in while gathering blood bags, which will allow them to transform. Once they transform, they can feast. And when you're out, you're out.

Lots of room for error, such as an infected claiming "I SAW BOB DRINK BLOOD IT WAS HIM" when he is just trying to cause friendly fire. Leaves a lot of room for betrayal, and even more trust issues.

Don't know if you guys are interested, but the games are short, it's free, I enjoyed it, so I thought I would support it.

Sounds similar to that mod that came out on Counter-Strike Source. Except that used to go as high as 100 players in some cases lol.

I want a pc that works!!! My steam account is severely unloved right about now. Little gems like these get released and I’m stuck hoping for something on console

Hi ed001, I just wanted to expand your talk about a good gaming rig build. I recent spent loads of time researching this and have a professor who builds computer as a hobby (he paid for graduate school doing this on the side, he's very good at it)

Most of what you said I'll agree with. A "good processor" is something people will argue about, but as long as you are not streaming or doing some crazy video editing, an i5 is the way to go. That being said, the new AMD Ryzen CPUs are set to be out in a few weeks and they're going to kick butt, which will put AMD back in the playing field. (Benefits all us consumers)

The graphics card: I think, personally there is no sense in buying the 400+ GPUs like the 1080 and 1070, unless you just have money to blow. The AMD Radeon Rx480 has some really good value to it. I have a GTX 1060 but it is more expensive and I'm not sure why. (I got a really good deal on it or I would own the rx480). These mid level cards can run all you want them to (ok, games like Witcher 3 may need to have hair turned down one notch, big deal) .

Ram is where we will disagree. It's important, no doubt, and if by "enough" you mean 8 gigs then yes. Ram is something to save money on (not by brand, but by amount) . I recommend starting with 8 gigs and if you notice some studdering running multiple programs, just buy another stick and add it. It's about 50 or so dollars for 8 gigs (get crucial or gskill) . Very easy to upgrade
The SSD: you have to have one. They're the bees knees.

The last thing: fractal makes some very good small, but well ventilated cases. Heat dissipation is not the same issue it was. You don't need liquid cooling, at all, unless you are in a desert lab or something. These new CPUs are designed to consume less power, and they do so efficiently (intel at least, ryzen I've heard will be even better) . Save money and use a stock fan.

My specs, if anyone is interested.

Intel i5-6500 3.2 GHz
Msi b150 MOBO
EVGA SC GTX 1060 6 gb
250 GB SSD ----1 TB HDD
16 GB 2133 MHz ram. (I host servers sometimes, needed the extra) .
430W corsair PSU.

Sorry for the lengthy post ed, this is something I'm very interested in. It's become a hobby of mine haha. Would love to hear others thoughts on gaming rigs.

TjRed

{Ed001's Note - no need to apologise, it is something I am very interested too. I intend to invest in another gaming rig this year, if I can save up enough money. It is supposed to be a fair bit cheaper out here, though I have yet to even look into it. I prefer to look when I have something saved to use, rather than window shopping and leaving myself wishing!}

That's a good point. You're looking at a good time to buy with the AMD stuff coming out. It's going to drop prices significantly. If you're savvy enough to build one yourself, then that's the way to go. Be smart with power supplies and don't fall for the "I want to upgrade so I need 1000W to be safe," argument. I would be surprised if you needed more than 500W for a single card system with the newer processors.

{Ed001's Note - I am in no rush, so I will do it all myself bit by bit.}

2.) 25 Feb 2017 22:22:30
New AMD Ryzen are making Intel panic, no one expected it to be as strong as they are, for almost half the price too!

"Save money and use a stock fan. "

I've just seen this, and no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

If you're using it for gaming, ALWAYS use an after market CPU cooler. Graphics cards are usually fine, but both AMD and Intel really, really skimp out on stock thermal paste, heatsink and fans.

Get yourself:
Arctic Silver 5 - Thermal compound
www.overclockers.co.uk/arctic-silver-5-thermal-compound-3.5g-ac-000-ac.html
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU heatsink and fan(assuming it fits the socket type).
www.overclockers.co.uk/cooler-master-hyper-212-evo-cpu-cooler-hs-035-cm.html

These two alone will drop your CPU tempteratures by 10c minimum from a default cooler.

Just to give you an idea, when running Doom and ARK: Survival Evolved, I was hitting temps of upto 85c, with this cooler and thermal compound, I'm getting 55c on 100% CPU load.

This will improve the longevity of the CPU x10.

4.) 24 Mar 2017 07:08:36
I agree with hsf here, but I would suggest using Noctua's coolers and fans too if its not expensive for you to change it. They're not pretty, but i'm pretty sure they are one of, if not the best out there. They're not exactly designed to look pretty, its just designed to be good. However unless you're planning to stick with 1 CPU for 10 years, temperatures, unless extremely high, wouldn't affect you that much, if you'd go on and replace them after 3 years (in terms of longevity of your CPU I mean)

AMD's Ryzen would benefit us definitely, it say the next or probably the generation after the next one's CPU will probably be the best time to buy, if Ryzen proves to be good, because it will lower down the price & increase the quality of the CPUs.

While I agree that in most cases AMD's GPU has better dollar/pound value, AMD is generally slower in releasing updates to their Graphic Card's drivers, while NVIDIA is commonly faster. So if you're playing current gen games, going for AMD may affect you (probably won't affect all games).

THOughts on final fantasy 15 guys? I'm inn chapter 4 now. Find it enjoyable but there's some things I don't like about it. One of the things that made ff7 and 9 great was the open world without markers on it. You either figured out where to go yourself or you got lost. Something that has taken me away from new games. You get a quest. You mark the quest. You go kill something or pick something up. And you return. Rinse and repeat. I realize that as games get bigger and bigger that becomes more necessary; the great games like Skyrim do it very successfully. But I just miss there being few hidden side quests, that gave really cool benefits and were really helpful, instead of exp farmer side quests with no purpose like FF15.

Other than that random rant, I do enjoy the game. Hack and slash combat is fun, but this is one that actually takes more than smashing X. The story is good. The graphics are truly insane. And the party system/level up system is clever. Nothing will ever match 7 and 9 so it's really not a criticism.

I love that mate. An adventure should be an adventure. I still can't believe that modern rpgs have abandoned what should be a core principle. Why have so called open worlds when it's mapped and guided? The answer is simple. RPGs were a niche market so they needed to open it up to others for sales . And now that seems to be the formula. Remember early Zelda you would have to look and look. I can't believe that they don't stash books and notes that hints of treasure or a mythical monster in law or areas and that people have to sus it out. Games nowadays can't be to hard. Also if things get tricky people can google it. It has destroyed in my opinion the genre (which is my favourite genre) also you never get pure rpgs or jrpgs but action rpgs . That's why I love dark souls because it's hard and every choice you make can't be reversed and you have to play the whole game again to rectify your mistakes. Like that post mate

2.) 11 Dec 2016 00:55:42
I have to add before anyone hits me with contradiction gate. Dark souls action rpg as is zelda. My original love came from phantasy star , mana , ys and dragon quest which are pure rpg/jrpg but the above mentioned are how to make action rpg perfect. I loved witcher and elder scrolls but these are not pure in that genre! Just good adventure games . I have never played a final fantasy and know that if I played the earlier ones in context as to when they were released I would have annoyed some of them but I was always busy playing the more serious true to genre titles

{Ed007's Note - I loved Wicher 3 and Elder Scrolls oh and Witcher 3 was on your recommendation if I recall right.
It's just each to their own, I'm a complete AC fanboy and love every single game in the series - I've got the new Ezio Collection sitting waiting and winking at me trying to entice me to undress it - but Ed001 can't stand any of them.
We need to get some online action and comps going but I'm racking my brain how? Obviously a FIFA comp would be popular on both platforms but it's setting it up and trusting folk to supply and prove results (screen shots?), teams playing together in games like COD or that?
You guys know more about me with online gaming so any suggestions would be welcome, could you send me a pic of the final score in a sports game as proof to help sort cups or leagues? I don't mind collecting and sorting the info if I can get it it reliably sent to me.
It's just an idea so shoot it down or pitch in some ideas if you want.}

3.) 11 Dec 2016 02:09:23
Yes I love both witcher and elder scrolls but they ain't pure rpgs . They are both games that have produced good 'action rpgs' rpgs are on a complete autistic nerd level where you play 3 days to just get enough points to play 5 mins of the story. Level up try if you don't succeed level up try again . I'm open to play any game online and will do my best to sort it out. I think you will be suprised ed I'm a very average gamer who is marginally better at certain games. I so want you to complete dark souls! Online I can play through with you! Like I did with others to get me over the line. Battlefield is the shooter I would like to play as it is so much better in squads where people fight as a team. Titanfall 2 is another good game that benefit from co-op! COD is a twitch shooter mate and only benefits those who are fast of reflex. In the other two mentioned you can use tactics that you are comfortable with to make a difference

{Ed007's Note - It's a certainty I'll go back to DS3 at some point and I'll give you a shout when I do (yes)

4.) 11 Dec 2016 14:55:33
The difference with final fantasy is its a jrpg so something totally different.
As for ffxv I'm absolutely loving it I'm on chapter 8 and already sunk 35 hours into it

5.) 14 Dec 2016 12:47:09
New dragon quest out next year. I'm excited about that

6.) 14 Dec 2016 19:15:23

7.) 14 Dec 2016 21:47:51

This talk of final fantasy has me yearning to play one again.

I've been looking at lists and all of them say final fantasy 6 was the best one. With 9 and 7 somewhere in the top 4. I loved 9 and 7, so it really makes me wonder. Plus 6 is available for iPhone now.

Do you know what Tj jrpg and rpg have always been my favourites but I have never played a final fantasy, played all the phantasy stars , mana series all the square stuff but never a final fantasy and I don't know why not

2.) 30 Oct 2015 01:55:03
Man they're amazing. I just downloaded chrono trigger on the wii and it's fun thus far! Final fantasy 7 and 9 are top drawer

3.) 30 Oct 2015 09:31:15
Yeah I really have to give one a play, I don't have any idea why I never played one because gams like that are my thing

4.) 30 Oct 2015 14:18:53
Well I never played final fantasy 6, but everything I have read said it is the best one ever. I started with 7 and it's my favorite so I'm sorta reluctant to play 6.

I played the alpha and I was bored within an hour. I hoped they would add enough stuff to make it fun, but that wasn't the case. Another No Man's Sky disappointment if you ask me.

The secret of mana remake is a good shout. Some people hating on it but I've heard really good things from couch coop fans.

As for vermintide, it was fun. A bit repetitive, as all games like that are, so I lost interest before I got to the end. But I had fun, and it is definitely difficult. Its not just mindless slashing, you have to block or you're going to die.

Civ 5 is quite fun. Haven't gotten 6 as I just don't have time for that game.

Ryzen 3 processors are worth a shout too. Honestly with cheap systems I'm not sure an SSD is going to make that huge of a difference. It's really easy to install your own SSD if you decide you have to have one, and with Black Friday coming, you could get one cheap. I would recommend getting a Ryzen 3 or i3 if it's just for FM. You can often find good deals on laptops with cheap dedicated GPUs that wouldn't be too much more expensive, and make the world of difference.

The controller can disconnect sometimes and it has done some weird stuff. If you get that joy con error like me then you can send it in to be replaced for free. Takes a couple weeks to get it back apparently. Zelda is a lot of fun mate. The glitches certainly aren't a big deal.
